How Great Thou Art

Sunday, November 29, 2009

How Great Thou Art

O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: "My God, how great Thou art!"

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

While I'm Waiting...

While I'm Waiting

I'm waiting
I'm waiting on You, Lord
And I am hopeful
I'm waiting on You, Lord
Though it is painful
But patiently, I will wait

I will move ahead, bold and confident
Taking every step in obedience
While I'm waiting
I will serve You
While I'm waiting
I will worship
While I'm waiting
I will not faint
I'll be running the race
Even while I wait

I'm waiting
I'm waiting on You, Lord
And I am peaceful
I'm waiting on You, Lord
Though it's not easy
But faithfully, I will wait
Yes, I will wait

I will serve You while I'm waiting
I will worship while I'm waiting
I will serve You while I'm waiting
I will worship while I'm waiting
I will serve you while I'm waiting
I will worship while I'm waiting on You, Lord

waiting = trusting the LORD

Are you trusting the Lord, your God, with what you are facing?

Or are you striving to make things work out in your own strength?

Why are you doubting?

Is it time to re-focus?

Spend some time with Him...

I am still confident of this:
I will see the goodness of the LORD
in the land of the living.

Wait for the LORD;
be strong and take heart
and wait for the LORD.

~ Psalm 27:13,14

Me? Beloved?

~ By Paula Moldenhauer

Do you agree with the writer who said one of the enemy's main goals is to convince us that we are not really loved by the Father?

I do.

Sometimes it seems we are hit from behind and the very spot injured is a deep, old wound that never heals. In these moments it is easy to ask, "How can God really love me and allow this to happen?"

And instantly the gnarled whisperer speaks with ancient, distorted brilliance. "Of course He doesn't love you. You didn't really believe that garbage did you?"

Other times we fail and that voice shouts like a pointed finger jabbing our heart, "How could He love you when you do that?"

If the enemy can take away our trust in God's love, He can cripple us. Then, like a dark, slow moving cloud, he covers us with his shadows of despair. And accusation roars like thunder, fear flashes like striking lightening, and the rain never waters our heart, instead flooding our souls with hopelessness.

For if we don't understand God's love, we get lost in the storm. We don't see the coast guard trying to save us. We miss the lifeboat next to our home. We never hear the helicopter above, dangling a strong rope of hope. The lighthouse seems too far away.

Every bruised relationship seems hopeless. We feel unworthy of every dream. We are unloved. Even those who love us can't be heard for our deepest need of love is from our Creator, and we don't believe He cares.

It's all lies, my friend. The deceiver of the ages, the one who comes to kill and destroy is cloaking your mind in his wrathful deception.

The truth is and has always been. God is love. God loves you. Always. Forever. No matter what you've done or will do. He never pulls away from you. He never hesitates to meet you. He always wants to hold you close. There are no strings attached.

Grab the robe. Climb into the boat. Let the strong arms of the coast guard lift you out of the storm and into a gentle refreshing rain. Let His love wash away the doubt. Dare to believe that it is really true.

You are loved. By the One Who matters most—the only one that can fill the empty, angry, lonely place inside.

Reject the enemy. Scripture says when you resist he flees.

Embrace the truth. Step into the Sonshine.

"Peace, be still." (Mark 4:39b JKV)

Fearful of Being Abandoned?

Be Content

by Al Albrecht

In the shelter of His arms,

When the mighty tempests roll,

Comes a feeling of contentment,

From deep within the soul.

In the whisper of the wind,

As the clouds go drifting by,

His peace sometimes is awesome,

When you know He's by your side.

In the wee, wee morning hours,

While the dew is on the grass,

Comes a feeling filled with love,

As the Master answers back.

I walk and talk with my Savior,

Every moment of every day,

And listen when He speaks,

To this sinner of all mankind.

My soul so filled with gladness,

When in His tender care,

Be content and always thankful,

Because God is everywhere.

Make War by Tedashii

11 Besides this you know what [a critical] hour this is, how it is high time now for you to wake up out of your sleep (rouse to reality). For salvation (final deliverance) is nearer to us now than when we first believed (adhered to, trusted in, and relied on Christ, the Messiah).

12 The night is far gone and the day is almost here. Let us then drop (fling away) the works and deeds of darkness and put on the [full] armor of light.

13 Let us live and conduct ourselves honorably and becomingly as in the [open light of] day, not in reveling (carousing) and drunkenness, not in immorality and debauchery (sensuality and licentiousness), not in quarreling and jealousy.

14 But clothe yourself with the Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah), and make no provision for [indulging] the flesh [put a stop to thinking about the evil cravings of your physical nature] to [gratify its] desires (lusts).

When you feel unlovable, unworthy or unclean,
And you think no one can heal you,
Remember, friend
God Can.

When you think that you are unforgivable
For your guilt and your shame
Remember, friend,
God Can.

When you think that all is hidden
And no one can see within,
Remember, friend
God Can.

And when you have reached the bottom
And you think that no one can hear,
Remember, friend
God Can.

And when you think that no one can love
The real person deep inside of you-
Remember my dear friend,
God DOES

You Just Lost One!

Monday, November 16, 2009

Dear Satan,
I’m writing this letter to inform you that
Our relationship is officially done.
You just lost one.
Because for too long I’ve battled in my mind
Your voice vs God vs mine.
For too long I’ve entertained the same thoughts as Cain
Like how truthfully my flesh loves to be first.
How my pride tries to cover and hide
so I can’t see the extent of this curse.
So I’m returning all your gifts, rejecting all your myths.
See all this time I thought I had control,
But you were controlling this.
Despite me doing good works in the church,
Thinking I was a Christian, all the while allowed your spirit to lurk.
What a deception! You went to church with me!
A thought and perception, saying that I loved God louder and louder
But had a spiritual infection.
I see you’re a deceiver.
You take advantage of every weak part.
That I could come to church every week
as long as I don’t apply The Word to my heart.
We were friends because I did what you wanted me to.
I thought a little sin wouldn’t hurt.
I mean I didn’t want to sleep with you
I just thought it would be cool to flirt.
But I see you play for keeps.
Now I see The Word is true: what you sow is what you reap.
And I keep saying “I’m so blessed. I’m so blessed.”
All the while secretly giving you a kiss.
And I remember all the places we used to go.
Now, angrily, it makes me sick.
Dude, like, how you talked me into goin’ to the club.
And at first I really didn’t want to go.
I thought it wouldn’t affect me but
While I was there my lust would flair and I got hot and heavy.
Start thinkin’ about the dudes in the room
And wantin’ to ride off in their Chevy.
Or the comedy spots where we sat and laughed
Enjoyin’ ourselves all night.
We were there. We were jokin’ and mockin’ the church
Like that situation is light.
And explicit sexual content echoed through that mic
And I laughed like it was all right.
Now I know God wasn’t laughin’.
Even though you and I were on a roll.
I see it was because my heart was so numb and cold.
And in the back of my mind I thought I’d really give God 100% when I’m old.
Once I’m done having my fun,
And then I thought: what if I don’t make it past 25?
Then what? What did I live for?
And I just can’t ignore anymore this proposal from the Lord.
So I changed my number so you would no longer call
And I would no longer fall
But even though I did all that you still controlled me from afar.
I was just tryin’ to be a better person:
Stop clubbin’, stop sex, stop cursin’.
Drop friends because of greed, stop working.
But stopping things don’t rid the seed of the serpent.
It was all self-righteousness.
A righteousness I created.
It’s like using filthy rags to take bath when the truth is
My entire sin nature is bad.
And me stoppin’ those things
Never dealt with the wickedness of my heart.
If I thought someone did me wrong,
I was so quick to lash back,
all the while singin’ a praise song.’
Even though the Bible says, “Repay not evil for evil,”
I refused to believe.
And your strings got me doing things I can’t even help,
Like I’m tryin’ to love my brother
but I’m always thinking about myself.
What a curse! Like I could run up
And hug someone at church.
But because inwardly, I wanted to be first.
Didn’t realize it, but I was wishin’ them the worst.
Although the outside was clean,
The inside of the cup was filthy and mean.
So I wrestled with the conclusion:
Maybe I’ve been excluded of being able to live this Christian life.
But then I realized that sounds like your voice.
You’ve influenced so much of my life.
Those events now help me see how powerless I am.
And the reality is: there is only one way.
And before I was set free, I had to realize I was a slave.
I have no merit, no virtue, or favor with God.
It’s Christ’s poured out life blood that saves.
And I’m sick of it, my sin.
And I’ve defended it, time and time again, dead in my transgression.
But now, I’ve come up out of the grave!
I said I’ve come up out of the grave,
Because this new relationship is based solely by grace through faith.
And my life is a result of what I believe.
Since you should know the tree by the roots and the fruit,
So rather than just dress modestly, I’m checkin’ my heart, too,
Makin’ sure there’s no vanity or that I’m dressin’ to grab the attention of humanity.
Because I know what I could do
If I remained in a relationship with you.
My potential outside of Christ is extremely detrimental.
So I’m clinging on with all I’ve got.
So now when I think of all the movies we went too,
Man I get so hot!
Because Christ has won my heart
And I can’t sit there in the glory with the violence on that screen,
And even though I used to justify by saying "I never hurt anyone,"
I was being entertained by the very thing
God chose to destroy the world for in
Genesis 6.
He said the Earth was corrupted and filled with violence.
So the only reason I wasn’t destroyed, was God’s kindness.
You see you helped me build up a tower,
Like you did with Nimrod.
But I’m tearin’ it down for my God.
By the way, I’m clearin’ out my ipod.
I’m giving you back all your music.
Couldn’t see it before, this tool you were using.
Different song, different score, brought the same conclusion.
All about lust, money, self, and sex,
Yet those things are the reason Christ was put to death.
So who you using next?
Chris Brown, T-pain, Soulja Boy, Neyo, Beyonce, or Game?
Every artist’s motivation is the same:
To take my heart away from the reason Christ came.
Now I can say I’m saved all the while exalting men.
Not a fanatic for Christ because I’m a T.I. fan.
And no one, no one.
Not even Alicia Keys keys supercedes the reason Christ bleeds.
No one, no one.
Has even ever heard Alicia sing about why Christ has grieved.
And I thought her music was positive.
But when I look into The Word, Christ and Alicia are opposites.
Christ is on my mind so you won’t see me bobbin’ it.
Because He’s all I need.
I said He’s all that I need.
Because all that music was to glorify me.
Yet the reason Christ came was to mortify me, to crucify my flesh.
Not to be the Christian in Christian Dior from the video with Kanye West.
Now I see how he’s saying he’s a Christian,
Yet he’s exalting women, sex, and greed.
And I said I was just listening to the beats y’all.
I said I was just listening to the beats.
You had me so blind to the content.
I was so deceived. Didn’t realize it was Satan disguised while I was hitting repeat.
And at the same time, they were pushing repeat while my Savior was beat.
Pierced at his wrists and feet to take away these worldly lusts,
these songs that are within me.
So I confess, I’m no longer impressed with your rap lines.
“You’ll give me all your kingdoms as I bow and worship at your shrine.”
And I used to, but now I’m adopted into the vine.
So every lie you told me, like you being my homey.
That I could rep Christ as long as we kept it on the low key.
Dude, I’m done with you. And all the excuses that you gave,
Like “Living holy is a long process.”
But the truth is, you didn’t want me to change.
And I used to be a daughter of lies. You used to be my master.
But now I’m at the feet of Christ with my box of alabaster.
Because He redeemed me, set me free,
And I will spend my time, all of eternity
Learning Him. Wiping his feet with my tears.
Well, there won't be no tears in heaven.
But I will sit and give him reverence
Because I know I’m undeserving of his love.
See I am now covered in the blood of the Son.
And in case you forgot ..
I’m writing this letter to ensure you that
Our relationship is officially done.
You just lost one.
It is done. It’s done.

The Respect Dare

Saturday, November 14, 2009

Are you tired of feeling alone in your marriage?

Are you ready to try something different?

Do you ache for peace and joy in your marriage?

Are you just so very tired of the pain?

If you are looking for a way to improve the quality of your relationship with your husband and your God, then The Respect Dare will help you to do that!

For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. This is a profound mystery--but I am talking about Christ and the church. However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. ~ Ephesians 5:31-33

Meet Nina Roesner, author or The Respect Dare and the Executive Director of Greater Impact Ministries, Inc.

The Respect Dare has been a labor of love; and it is encouraging to know that Nina has seen the transforming effects of applying respect to her own marriage relationship with her husband.

Nina has seen hundreds of people positively impacted by the understanding and application of the Biblical concept of respect.

"I believe and pray that women everywhere can positively impact their marriages by understanding these Biblical principles and learning how to apply them - we either trust God enough to give it a try or we don't - and He always shows up when we trust Him!" ~ Nina Roesner

The Path to Destruction

“No one will ever know.”
“One time won’t hurt.”
“Everyone else does it.”

Sound familiar? I’m not surprised if it does. Every one of us has faced the temptation to compromise. Now, I’m not talking about the healthy give-and-take that is a vital part of any close relationship.

I’m referring to the kind of compromise that causes us to abandon God’s laws and principles. It leaves us morally and spiritually bankrupt. After this kind of compromise, our attitude of obedience gives way to dangerous independence from God.

When we’re faced with the temptation to make dangerous choices, we are wise to consider those who have suffered as a result of compromise.

Consider King Solomon. He had more wisdom and riches than any other king (1 Kings 10:23-24). Yet, he deliberately disobeyed God’s warning in Deuteronomy 7:3 about intermarriage with people of other religions. He took “seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines” (1 Kings 11:3). Eventually, “when Solomon was old … his wives turned his heart away after other gods” (1 Kings 11:4).

Solomon’s descent to sin started with a single thought. That’s where compromise always begins. What began as a thought in Solomon’s mind exploded into tragedy. It began with a look here, a gaze there—and before long, he was trapped. Eventually, he abandoned himself completely to disobedience.

It didn’t happen overnight. Compromise is usually subtle at first, and each step of the way the process becomes easier, not more difficult as we might assume. One day, we forget where we began.

It’s impossible to compromise without giving up something. But what I receive may not be equal to what I give up. The question is, “What do we need to compromise?” Purity? Honesty? Integrity? Our belief in the Word of God? Satan will whisper, as he did to Solomon, “Come on, no one’s perfect. Everyone has to give up on something to make it in this life.”

No one doubts that we are called upon to give up certain things in life. Satan’s implication is that there are no boundaries. That whatever he prods us to give up will ultimately lead to greater happiness. That’s not true.

What do you think Solomon would say to us if he could assess the process he went through? I think he would say two things are certain.

First, compromise is costly. When you compromise, it’s an admission that you’re willing to surrender what’s valuable to you.

I have seen friends compromise what they would have once died to uphold. I’ve watched politicians promise one thing and vote differently once they were in office. In each instance, a price was paid. My friends who compromised their values to gain popularity, win influence, or obtain finances sacrificed their self-respect and the trust of their peers. Politicians who forfeited their principles to gain political power find success fickle when once-loyal friends become aware of their actions.

The high cost of compromise is apparent from the days of Solomon to the morning headlines of today’s newspaper. Satan hasn’t changed. In some cases, the price has escalated dramatically. I think of young men and women who compromise their sexual purity. The price for such decisions has always been too high, with millions of babies being born out of wedlock. Today there is an added cost of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases. What once resulted in a pregnancy, lost dreams, and broken lives can kill a person today. That’s a pretty high price for compromise.

Second, not only is compromise costly, but compromise also corrupts. King Solomon went from worshipping the one true God to worshipping idols. The goddess Ashtoreth had worshippers who practiced animal and human sacrifices. As part of their rituals, they threw babies into the fire. They engaged in male and female prostitution. Solomon knew better. He became so corrupted that God began diminishing his wisdom. Ultimately, God told Solomon:

“I will surely tear the kingdom from you” (1 Kings 11:11). He said he would rip the kingdom right out of Solomon’s hands because of his compromising. He knew how to get the king’s attention.

Compromise is costly. It corrupts. It brings collapse.

Have you been flirting with compromise? Perhaps you’ve crossed the line and are beyond flirting. You’ve jumped headfirst into whatever you’ve been admiring. It’s never too late to turn back to the Father.

As long as you live in a fallen world, there will be temptations. If Satan can get you to give up what is important to you, he has begun a process that could cost you dearly. That is a guarantee. Is it really worth the cost? Your hope lies in the fact that you serve the God who created all that is good. His limitless power is your only defense against the Enemy’s schemes. Hold to the truth, stand strong against compromise, and you will escape its destructive force.

Cute little lion cub...

by Sue Cramer

Isn’t it cute? Don’t you just want to pick it up and snuggle it? This lion cub is a metaphor for what sin can represent to us. It starts out seeming so sweet and cuddly and safe, but when it grows up - and it will - it can destroy us.

I have sat with a few different women who were involved in an adulterous affair or on the threshold of one. They would tell me how wonderful this relationship is, that it makes them feel so good and how could anything that feels so good be wrong?

Are you being deceived?

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. ~ John 10:10 NIV

What is Ministry?

Friday, November 13, 2009

Listening, when you’d rather fix the problem.
Searching for the joy, when it’s easier to say “it’s not fair.”
Helping, when you feel like you’re the one that needs the help.
Telling God, “use me,” when you’d rather ask to be rescued.
Encouraging, even when you don’t understand God’s reasoning.
Hugging when it feels awkward.
Saying, “let’s pray right now,” instead of “I’ll pray for you.”
Serving, when you doubt you have anything left to give.
Comforting, by being the flicker of light in others’ dark caverns.

"Your Slip is Showing"

Years ago, it was commonplace for women to wear undergarments called slips. Slips were bothersome because they could shift and hang beneath the hem of your dress. This was a huge faux pas. If you were fortunate, a sister girl would have your “back” and tip you off to your wardrobe malfunction.

As women and sisters in the Body of Christ, we must likewise have one another’s “back” in the spirit. If a sister is taken in a fault, we must love her enough to warn her and tell her when her “spiritual” underpinnings are not right. If we do it right, we will deepen our bond with her and prevent the enemy from getting a stronghold on her. Hopefully, she will there to do the same for you.

Problems? How Do You Respond?

The problems you face will either defeat you or develop you- depending on how YOU respond to them. Unfortunately, most people fail to see how God wants to use problems for good in their lives. They react foolishly and resent their problems rather than pausing to consider what benefit they might bring.

Here are five reasons God may have permitted the problems you experience in your life:

1. God permits problems to DIRECT you. Sometimes God must light a fire under you to get you moving. Problems often point us in a new direction and motivate us to change. Is God allowing this situation to get your attention? “Sometimes it takes a painful situation to make us change our ways.” Proverbs 20:30

2. God permits problems to INSPECT you. People are like tea bags…If you want to know what’s inside them, just drop them into hot water! Has God tested your faith by allowing a problem or two into your life? What do problems reveal about you? “When you have many kinds of troubles, you should be full of joy, because you know that these troubles test your faith, and this will give you patience.” James 1:2-3

3. God uses problems to CORRECT you. Some lessons we learn only through pain and failure. It’s likely that as a child your parents told you not to touch a hot stove. But you probably learned by being burned. Sometimes we only learn the value of something (health, money, relationships, etc.), by losing it. “It was the best thing that could have happened to me, for it taught me to pay attention to your laws.” Psalms 119: 71-72

4. God permits problems to PROTECT you. A problem can be a blessing in disguise if it prevents you from being harmed by something more serious. Last year a friend was fired for refusing to do something unethical that his boss had asked him to do. His unemployment was a problem, but it saved him from being convicted and sent to prison a year later when management’s actions were eventually discovered. “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good.” Genesis 50:20

5. God permits problems to PERFECT you. Problems, when responded to correctly are character builders. God is far more interested in your character than your comfort.. Your relationship with God and your character are the only thing you are going to take with you into eternity. “We can rejoice when we run into problems. They help us learn to be patient. Patience develops strength of character in us and helps us trust God more each time we use it until finally our hope and faith are strong and steady.” Romans 5:3-4

Here’s the point: God is at work in your life even when you do not recognize it or understand it. It is much easier and profitable when you cooperate with Him.

Ain't

Thursday, November 12, 2009

He was just a little boy,
On a week's first day.
Wandering home from Bible school,
And dawdling on the way.

He scuffed his shoes into the grass;
He even found a caterpillar.
He found a fluffy milkweed pod,
And blew out all the 'filler.'

A bird's nest in a tree overhead,
So wisely placed up so high.
Was just another wonder,
That caught his eager eye.

A neighbor watched his zig zag course,
And hailed him from the lawn;
Asked him where he'd been that day
And what was going on.

'I've been to Bible School ,'
He said and turned a piece of sod.
He picked up a wiggly worm replying,
'I've learned a lot about God.'

'M'm very fine way,' the neighbor said,
'for a boy to spend his time.'
'If you'll tell me where God is,
I'll give you a brand new dime.'

Quick as a flash the answer came!
Nor were his accents faint.
'I'll give you a dollar, Mister,
If you can tell me where God ain't.'

The Mourning Booth
~ The Skit Guys

In everyone's life there is a time where we have a season where we must walk through the valley. To those on the outside looking in, we tend to want to help "fix" it for them. To those that are walking in the valley though, the concept of "fixing" it is an impossible feat. Even though each moment is an eternity filled with despair, sometimes all they need is someone to simply "be" there.

So the next time you see someone in mourning, depression, despair or they are just simply out of kilter... don't be afraid to allow them their season, but also just "be there."

Songs of Deliverance

Songs of Deliverance

You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. ~ Psalm 32:7 NIV

"I look for your deliverance, O LORD. ~ Genesis 49:18 NIV

Moses answered the people, "Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. ~ Exodus 14:13 NIV

Then Hannah prayed and said: "My heart rejoices in the LORD; in the LORD my horn is lifted high. My mouth boasts over my enemies, for I delight in your deliverance. ~ 1 Samuel 2:1 NIV

When the LORD saw that they humbled themselves, this word of the LORD came to Shemaiah: "Since they have humbled themselves, I will not destroy them but will soon give them deliverance. ~ 2 Chronicles 12:7 NIV

You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the LORD will be with you.' " ~ 2 Chronicles 20:17 NIV

From the LORD comes deliverance. May your blessing be on your people. ~ Psalm 3:8 NIV

Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, for I know that through your prayers and the help given by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance. ~ Phillippians 1:19 NIV

Sermon Series: Backseat Jesus

Exploring the different ways we put Jesus
in the back seat of our lives...

Matt Chandler once said, “We have a mass of humanity that has had a collision with Jesus and has this hope of heaven, but the functionality of the gospel in their lives is not visible.”
Ouch! See we’ve trusted Jesus as our Savior, but many of us have not trusted Him as Lord and the obvious outcome is our lives as Christians doesn’t look that different from non-Christians.
In this series we’re going to talk a lot about the gap between “current you” and “imagined you”. It’s the gap between who you are today and the person God imagined when he thought you into existence. Most of us are aware of the gap and even though we know we can’t close it based on our human effort, but we try anyway.

Watch Backseat Jesus.
Here are a few ways I (Pete Wilson) find myself tempted to close the gap:
Fake it.
Daily I’m tempted to deal with the gap by just faking it. Just pretending there isn’t a gap. I wear a mask that portrays I have it all together even though I know inside I’m dying. I pretend I’m the father I’m not. I pretend I’m the husband I’m not. I cover up my weaknesses and hope nobody notices.
Work it
I’ve often been tempted to think I could close the gap if I just had a higher level of commitment. If I woke up a little earlier so I could pray 15 minutes longer. If I read five chapters a day instead of my two chapters. If I joined two small groups instead of just one. If I could make myself miserable then it must be spiritual.
Switch it.
This is a common temptation in our culture today. We even have a term for it called “church shopping”. When we realize there is a gap we blame it on the church we’re attending. If I’m not growing it must be their fault. So if I switch churches surely the next pastor or the next program will be able to help me close the gap. Right? Wrong!
Quit it.
This is when you decide to stop even worrying about the gap. You know it’s there, but you’re tired of not making progress so you just simply quit. You know you’re not the man or woman God has called you to be but you just give up. You decide to settle for mediocrity. You're tired, frustrated and you feel hopeless.
How about you? Do any of these ring a bell?

How are you tempted to close the gap?

Watch or listen to Backseat Jesus.

At Day's End

Thursday, November 05, 2009

Is anybody happier
Because YOU passed their way?
Does anyone remember
That you spoke to them today?

The day is almost over,
And its toiling time is through,
Is there anyone to utter
Now a kindly word of YOU?

Can you say tonight in parting
With the day that's slipping fast ...
That you helped a single person
Of the many that you passed?

Is a single heart rejoicing
Over what you did or said?
Does the one whose hopes were fading
Now with courage look ahead?

Did you waste the day or use it?
Was it well or sorely spent?
Did you leave a trail of kindness,
Or a scar of discontent?

As you close your eyes in slumber,
Will Our Creator quietly say ...
"You have earned one more tomorrow
By what you have done today"?

Reach Out

Reach out and touch the lonely, Lord;
The destitute in pain.
Reach out and heal those who are sick,
So their prayers won't be in vain.

Reach out and lift the burdens
From the shoulders of the meek.
Let your gentle Spirit guide them,
So your countenance they will seek.

Reach out and touch the homeless, Lord.
Give them shelter from the storm.
Nourish their bodies with good food to eat.
From your blanket of love, keep them warm.

Reach out and touch the non-believers
So, through their eyes, you can reveal
That you died for them and their sins, too;
As your blood flowed free down Calvary hill.

God's Paintbrush

Wednesday, November 04, 2009

Oh Lord you paint the sky,

Colors so beautiful to the naked eye.

You paint the colors of the trees,

Blowing ever so gently in the breeze.

You paint the smile on a child's face,

Nothing on earth could such replace.

You paint the Dawn at break of day,

Oh the majestic colors on display!

You paint a Rose on thorny stem,

The fragrance alone brings a hallowed Amen!

You paint the fields with wild flowers,

That sparkle so bright after evening showers.

You paint a Rainbow in pastel shades,

Pathways along the Everglades ,

Waterfalls full of mist and steam,

As Fields of flowers in sunshine beam.

You paint the sky on a stary night,

To my wondrous eyes is pure delight!

You paint a Sunset in every shade,

Your Glory on earth again displayed!

Your paintbrush, Oh God captures every eye,

The Beauty of Earth, land, sea and sky!

There is nothing, Oh Lord you would not do,

For your Creatures on earth who Worship You!

But to see Your Face and behold Your Glory,

No artist on earth could paint such a story!

The Beauty of Christ I long to see,

Nothing on earth compares to Thee!

Surrender

Surrender all to Me.
I am the good Shepherd, and
I am doing a mighty work in your life.
Stop resisting My pull;
allow Me to take you into a place of beauty.

If you let Me,
I will penetrate that hard shell
that you have placed over certain areas
of your heart and mind.
I will cause you to grow and dance.

You are seeking Me with only one eye;
the other eye is distracted by many other things.
I want your full attention.

Don't be discouraged by the things you see
and the words of the enemy;
he comes to kill rob still and steal your joy.

The coast is clear--
come out of hiding and be My witness.
You have My approval,
you don't need man's approval.

There is a gateway that has been opened--
walk through!
Begin seeing all that was lost or stolen.

Do less complaining and more loving; stop the grumbling.
Use that precious time for My glory.
Don't delay--obey.
It's time to move to the next level.

Too Blessed to be Stressed and Too Anointed to be Disappointed!

I refuse to be discouraged,
to be sad or to cry.
I refuse to be downhearted
and here's the reason why:

I have a God who is almighty;
who is sovereign and supreme;
I have a God who loves me,
and I am on his team.

He is all wise and powerful;
Jesus is His Name;
though everything else is Changeable,
My God remains the same.

I refuse to be defeated!
My eyes are on my GOD!
He has promised to be with me,
as through this life I trod.

I am looking past my circumstances,
to heaven's throne above.
My prayers have reached the heart of God.
I am resting in His love.

I give thanks to Him in everything.
My eyes are on His face.
The battle is His; the victory is mine;
He will help me win the race!

I repeat, "I'M TOO BLESSED TO BE STRESSED!"

Christ's Call to Follow in His Footsteps

To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. ~ 1 Peter 2:21 NIV

Are you still struggling with sin?

Are you struggling with your private thought life with things that you know are not pleasing to God?

Do you have a lack of victory in your life?

Do you lack the authority of God in your life?

Do you seek to please men rather than God?

Are you so busy that you can't be quiet?

Are you restless?

Why is that?

Avoid Distractions

Monday, November 02, 2009

by Kim Potter

One of the things I have noticed in my life as a believer is, just before or right in the middle of your promise manifesting, a distraction will come. Something will come into your life to try to get your eyes of God and the reward that is with Him.

We saw it in the life of Peter. He did the most amazing thing. Yet right in the middle of it a distraction came that took his eyes off Jesus.

Peter was on the boat with the other disciples. Suddenly they saw Jesus coming toward them, walking on the water. Peter was a man full of faith and a little arrogance, I think. He cried out to Jesus, 'Lord, if that is You, bid me come.' Jesus said the only thing He could say since it was Him; 'come.'

We know the story - Peter began to walk on water. My goodness! How that must have felt, to literally walk on something that shouldn't be holding you up. Then, the wind began to blow and it caused the waves to increase in size - suddenly Peter got his eyes off Jesus and on the distractions and he began to sink.

As I said, these things often happen right in the middle of something wonderful happening. But their sole purpose is to take your eyes off the moment, the manifestation, the time where you are literally walking on water WITH Jesus. Don't allow distractions to take your eyes off Jesus.

Proverbs 4:25 says in the Message Bible; Keep your eyes straight ahead, ignore all sideshow distractions.

Ignore the distractions. Distractions come from the enemy. The Bible tells us to give the enemy no place in our lives; that means we shouldn't even give him our attention - regardless of how he is trying to get it. Remember, if the enemy wants to get your eyes ON something, he also wants to get your eyes OFF something. Keep your eyes on God.

With all that being said, I will say this; a distraction may come in many forms, it may be in losing your job, or a child misbehaving, or it may even come as something that appears good, like an old friend coming into your life after a long time. IF IT TAKES YOUR EYES OFF GOD; ignore it and avoid it - it is a distraction.

The Bible says that we stay in PERFECT PEACE when our mind is stayed upon God. Peace is shalom, nothing broken or missing in our lives, to obtain this kind of peace that God gives, we must keep our eyes and our thoughts upon Him. When we do that, distractions will have no place in our lives.

I believe many of us have begun to walk on water in the spirit - let's keep our eyes on Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith and let's continue to walk on water.

What's distracting you today? Spend some time getting your eyes back on Jesus! Be intentional about 'keeping your eyes' on Christ; rather than your circumstances or distractions around you.

The Jesus Movie

Guest post by Bruce Marchiano, producer of Jesus...No Greater Love

The truth of the gospel never changes. But Christianity has many faces. They reflect the customs and cultures and the beautiful diversity of the global church. They are lined with the wisdom of age and vibrant with the passion of youth. One gospel for all the world…but how will we deliver it in a way that reaches the whole world? How will we reach the next generation?

Young Christians today are more like St. Francis of Assisi than a circuit riding preacher. “Preach the gospel at all times and when necessary, use words.” This is a generation focused on being the hands and feet of Christ and meeting the physical needs of those in both the local and global community. They are building houses, planting gardens, taking food and clothes to the poor and helping the widows and orphans… and then they are sharing the gospel. And they are using technology like never before. They communicate the message through audio, film, video and the internet, and they strive for excellence within those mediums. They must. This is how they will reach their generation for Christ.

I share their passion. In the film, The Gospel According to Matthew, we were able to capture the heart of Christ that is so often missing in Christian films, but the quality of the film making was constrained by an $800,000 budget. Now we are inspiring a movement that will bring Jesus to film in a version that literally leaps off the screen and into the hearts of viewers.

Jesus…No Greater Love, the new Jesus movie, (http://www.newjesusmovie.com/) will be a word for word, verse by verse film adaption of the Gospel according to John. The gospel is the power of God unto salvation. That’s really our concept, that the gospel would go out in the power of the film medium, unaltered by any human script writer.

The budget for a typical Hollywood production is $100-110 million. Actors’ salaries account for much of that cost. Because the new Jesus movie will be not be paying big name actors, our team believes we can produce a world class, state-of-the-art film incorporating the latest cutting-edge technology for just $45 million. The production will be shot on location in Jerusalem and shot digitally using CGI backgrounds and a green screen stage, providing unlimited potential for sharing the gospel for generations to come.

We are inviting people from all nations and all generations to join this movement to bring the gospel to all people. A movement made of 4.5 million people contributing a tax deductible donation of $10 each would fund the cost of the film. The Gospel belongs to everyone, and the new Jesus movie will be produced expressly so it can be accessed by everyone, no matter their financial situation. Our team's vision is to see the film translated into as many languages as possible and supplied to mission organizations and churches all over the world.

You can become a part of the movement to reach the next generation. Please help us spread the word to your friends and family. If you would like to make a donation, you can do so at http://www.newjesusmovie.com./
