Soul Care, God's Way
by Maria Egilsson

Taking Off the Mask & Becoming Vulnerable

Deep within, our soul is crying out for a deeper reality with God. Somehow we have lost our way. We cannot hear His voice. It is only when a crisis brings our life to a crashing halt that our self-deception is exposed and we begin to see that nothing really matters in life, but God. All pretence and self-protection is ripped away and we stand, like Adam and Eve, “naked and afraid” with the same desire to hide ourselves. Our soul, the “hidden person of the heart” (1 Pete3:4 NASB) is no longer hidden to our own gaze. God has always seen our true self and now He wants us to see; it is when we truly see ourselves that transformation can really take place. Soul care is a journey that will bring “truth to our inward parts” (Gen 30:10). Restoration of the soul is what soul care is about. It is also about seeing the threads of purpose that God has woven throughout our live and knowing how to respond to His work by developing a deeper relationship with Him. The health of our soul does matter.

Caring for my kids and husband seems so easy, but caring for my soul is downright difficult. What a wonderful inspiration I'm sure this book would be.

Share a 'holy habit' that you do to take care of your soul.

I like to pray especially for God to open my eyes to what He wants for me, not what I want.

My favorite scripture is:

Isaiah 44:20
Such a person feeds on ashes; a deluded heart misleads him; he cannot save himself, or say, “Is not this thing in my right hand a lie?”

Your blog post could not be more timely. My family suffered a severe financial blow this summer. While we did our best to keep our heads above water with our businesses and keep our employees with paychecks, we lost a home to foreclosure. This financial turmoil has me leaning on God like never before. I am seeking God's guidance while digging deeper in my relationship with him. Through every Bible study and Christian book I read, I find God speaking to me. These books remind me of God's love and that I am not forgotten. I hope to have the opportunity to learn from this book as well!

This book could not only minister to my soul - but also be used as a tool as Jesus uses me to minister to other's.

One of the books that have ministered to me a lot is Abba's Child by Brennan Manning. The washing of His mercy, love, compassion over me is still something that puts me in awe everyday!

thanks for offering this book on your site!!

Hi. What a wonderful giveaway this is. I'd love to win because I'm feeling such a desire right now to be neared to the Lord. We've been my 90 year old MIL's caregivers for the last 3 years. Since Oct she had suddenly been plaqued with health problems including an amputation and Alzheimers. We have her in a nursing home now. This is the first chance I've had to nurture myself and I feel God calling. He has been so good to us.

Thank you for letting me enter.
Hugs...Tracy :)

To take care of my soul, I try to open my bible every night at bedtime. I love reading devotions in the mornings. Some times just a cup of tea or a glass of sweet tea and angel magazine from guideposts really brings peace to my soul.

Thanks again...Tracy :)

My favorite scripture is:
Matthew 6:26
"Look at the birds of the air; they do not sew or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable then they?"

I love that verse....Tracy :)
