God is speaking...
...are you listening?

Oh! give me Samuel's ear,
An open ear, O Lord,
Alive & quick to hear
Each whisper of Thy Word;
Like him to answer thy call
And obey Thee first of all.
~ James Drummond Burns

Book Review by Karla Meachem

'The Power of a Whisper'...there's SO MUCH I want to say about this book,
but, it's hard to condense it into a short, concise review
So, instead, I will share a time in my life where
God continually whispered to me during a 'dark night of the soul' experience.

This book was given to me at a point in my life where
I was beginning to just come out of a 'dark night of the soul' experience.
Since November 2008, the past 2 years of my life have been one battle after another...

I was in a dark & lonely place

broken, rejected & alone...

I was being tossed & tattered by a storm that would just NOT let up

And every time it seemed that I was going to experience breakTHROUGH;
something else would happen...and there I would be again...

...just me & God

All during this dark & lonely time, God gave me many little whispers...
but the ONE VERSE that He engraved upon my heart was...

"Be still & know that I am God."
 ~ Psalm 46:10

I have learned a very valuable lesson during my dark night of the soul experience.

In a time of very deep isolation & desperation, I had tweeted on twitter,
"Where does the encourager go when he/she needs to be lifted up?"

I received no response...

Again...I was alone...just me & God...

I didn't receive a response from my faithful friends on twitter that day;
BUT I did receive a response from God.

He was listening to my heart's cry...

In the quiet & stillness, God whispered to my soul,
"You go to the Lord, my child.
You go to the Lord."

I never grew up in a Christian home.
I didn't grow up knowing and trusting God like many of you have.
In fact, I didn't become born-again until I was 29 years old.

So, even though I had put my trust IN God...
the majority of my believer's life...I did NOT trust God completely.

I believed in Him, His Word & the work that Jesus came to complete...
but always doubted that He really loved me.
I lived my life with an underlying fear, rather than faith.

God used the dark night of the soul experience
to reveal to me through the Power of a Whisper that...

I can trust Him...COMPLETELY...

I am His Beloved.

And whatever comes my way, I know...

For I am persuaded beyond doubt (am sure) that neither death nor life,
nor angels nor principalities, nor things impending and threatening nor things to come,
nor powers, Nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation
will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
~ Romans 8: 38, 39 Amplified

In closing, I would like to share a quote from the book,
"If there is a pattern in Scripture regarding whispers,
it is that we serve a communicating God ~ a God of words.
He created with a word, he healed with a word, he encouraged with a word,
he rebuked with a word, he guided with a word, he prophesied with a word,
he assured with a word, he loved with a word, he served with a word
and he comforted with a word.  Throughout all of history, God has communicated,
and he is still at it today.  The issue isn't whether or not God is speaking:
it's whether we have ears to hear what he says.  "

God is speaking...
are you listening?

Please feel free to share a time
when God has whispered to you...
