One Small Step

When inspiration (or the new year) comes,
we create a goal or resolution that we cannot wait to accomplish.
Often though, just a few days or weeks into the process,
we abandon our efforts because we feel burdened
and overwhelmed by our goal. This video is a reminder that any progress is good
and that the hardest journeys are fulfilled by taking one small step at a time.

iBloom Online 2011 Event:
Step Out of the Chaos
& Discover How to Live a Life You Love

Did you create New Year’s resolutions or goals this year? If so, were they the same ones you made in 2008, 2009, and 2010? Are you tired of writing the same resolution or goal down year after year? Well, we at iBloom, can relate! A few months ago we realized that our goals for 2011 were pretty much the same as they had been in previous years. We decided that 2011 was going to be different. Instead of creating goals with little follow through; we are determined to make our goals a reality in 2011!

We began to wonder, do other women have this same challenge? Are the same challenges resurfacing year after year? As we asked around, we discovered we weren’t alone and neither are YOU! Our iBloom team decided that since we’re making our goals a reality in 2011, then you might want to do the same. So, we’d like to invite YOU to join us on this life changing journey.

This is Home ~ Switchfoot

"Created for a place that I've never known..."

Do not let your hearts be troubled.

Trust in God; trust also in me.

In my Father's house are many rooms;
if it were not so, I would have told you.
I am going there to prepare a place for you.

And if I go and prepare a place for you,
I will come back and take you to be with me
that you also may be where I am.

You know the way to the place where I am going.

The Way to God

Offer Expires February 28th, 2011

Product Description

God did not mean for salvation to be a deep, complicated subject that man could not understand. But sometimes man’s words confuse God’s simple truths. D. L. Moody, one of the nineteenth century’s greatest evangelists, shows how simple salvation is. Avoiding heavy philosophy, he simply shows “the way to God.”

Soul Care, God's Way
by Maria Egilsson

Taking Off the Mask & Becoming Vulnerable

Deep within, our soul is crying out for a deeper reality with God. Somehow we have lost our way. We cannot hear His voice. It is only when a crisis brings our life to a crashing halt that our self-deception is exposed and we begin to see that nothing really matters in life, but God. All pretence and self-protection is ripped away and we stand, like Adam and Eve, “naked and afraid” with the same desire to hide ourselves. Our soul, the “hidden person of the heart” (1 Pete3:4 NASB) is no longer hidden to our own gaze. God has always seen our true self and now He wants us to see; it is when we truly see ourselves that transformation can really take place. Soul care is a journey that will bring “truth to our inward parts” (Gen 30:10). Restoration of the soul is what soul care is about. It is also about seeing the threads of purpose that God has woven throughout our live and knowing how to respond to His work by developing a deeper relationship with Him. The health of our soul does matter.

Grace works like lubricant in the gears of a machine.
When there is an abundance of it, they move efficiently with minimal friction.
Without lubricant, the gears grind into one another mercilessly.
Metal deteriorates as friction builds until the entire machine melts down.
In Christ are FORGIVEN. It's time we apply "lubricant" to the way we interact
with the brothers and sisters we are called to love.

Interview with
Kathy Howard

Unshakeable Faith, an 8-session Bible study for women by Kathy Howard, has just been released by New Hope Publishers. This study helps readers apply 8 key “faith traits” found in the life of Peter so they will be prepared to weather the harshest storms of life. Today we get to talk to Kathy about her new Bible study!

Kathy, what prompted you to write on this particular topic?

Over the last few years, many Christian women I love and admire have endured difficult circumstances such as life-threatening illness, divorce, death of a child, and financial hardship. The quality of their faith significantly affected how they endured these trials and how God worked in them for His glory. God strengthened and guided them through their close relationship with Jesus.

Their experiences made me wonder how I would do in the same circumstances. Like most women, I manage to juggle the everyday things of life – work, family, ministry, and home life – without too much difficulty. But sometimes, even in just a small crisis, my self-sufficiency is shaken. Would I stand firm in really hard times or would these trials knock me flat? I began to ask God to show me how my faith could be prepared.

So why Peter? Why is he a good example for us to study?

Peter was just an ordinary man, a fisherman. He worked hard. He had a family and friends. Peter was passionate and a natural leader, but he was also headstrong and impetuous. Peter had sworn to follow Jesus unconditionally, no matter the circumstances. Yet on the night Jesus was betrayed, his faith wavered and he denied His Lord. But then several decades later Peter willingly faced martyrdom rather than deny Him again. This study is about what made the difference in Peter’s faith. Unshakeable Faith looks closely at Peter’s life and teachings to discover some of the key characteristics God built into his faith that helped him stand firm in the face of death. That’s the kind of faith I want to have.

What’s unique about this study?

I love to study God’s Word. Learning about God, His ways, and what He desires for us is wonderful. But if we don’t apply what He teaches us, let it shape our lives, then we fall short of the full purpose of study. Unshakeable Faith not only leads readers into learning God’s Word, but it also purposefully helps readers apply it. In addition to each week’s application section, there is a “Faith Shaker” story that helps us see how that faith trait works in real life. These stories are about real women who have faced a life trial with which many readers will relate. Readers get to see how their faith keeps them standing firm. A strong faith in Jesus Christ does work in real life!

Where can readers get a copy of Unshakeable Faith?

The study is available at most online bookstores and many Christian bookstores. If your local bookstore does not carry it more than likely they can order it for you. Here are a few links to online stores:  Amazon, New Hope/WMU Bookstore, Barnes & Noble and Christian Book Distributors.

5 Steps to Fearlessness

by Keri Wyatt Kent

The most frequently repeated command in the Bible is “Do not…” What? Can you guess? You might be surprised. It is “do not be afraid.” Why then, are we so often paralyzed by fear? What can we do to replace our fear with faith, so that we can live boldly and freely?

If you ask most people, religious or not, to list biblical “sins,” they’ll likely offer you a list that includes adultery, lust, greed, murder, etc. Few, if any, would list “worry.” And yet, the most frequently repeated command in the bible is “do not be afraid.” Jesus devoted part of the Sermon on the Mount to tell his followers not to worry. But many Christians seem to be expert worriers. Their faith hides beneath a thick coating of fear. They worry about what will happen if certain people get elected or don’t, they worry about their kids, they worry about their money, or their church.

Often, their fear seems justified: when life is really hard, or challenges come your way, sometimes fear feels inevitable. You can’t help but worry, right? But what if worry is a choice? Why would Jesus say “Don’t worry,” unless it were actually a choice for us to make?

Pastor James MacDonald, in his latest book Always True, writes that fear is the opposite of faith. He asserts that it has no place in the life of a Christian.

“Fear expresses the opposite of all that Christianity is to be. Fear is the contradiction of faith. Faith says, ‘Whatever it is, it’ll be okay because of God.’ Fear says, It’s not going to be okay, and doesn’t think much about God at all. Fear is the complete state of anti-God. God seldom seems further from you than when your heart is filled with fear. Fear is relying completely on your own resources and realizing suddenly that they aren’t nearly enough to sustain you. Fear has no place in the life of a Christian.” (p. 33)

How can you get rid of fear?

Here are five steps you can take to let go of worry and fear,
to live in the freedom of fearlessness.

1. Focus on the moment. Stress is often the result of our mind not focusing on the here and now. When we worry about the past, rehashing mistakes or wondering if we someone screwed up, we feel stressed. When we’re nervous about what’s coming, and imagine worst-case scenarios, most of which are highly unlikely, we frighten ourselves. Instead of living in the past or obsessing about the problems of tomorrow, simply focus on the moment at hand. What can you do right now? As Jesus said, “tomorrow has enough worries of its own.”

2. Pray. We often pray that God will intervene in the problems that we are worried about, but often this type of prayers are simply sanctified worrying. “Oh, God, please help me, please change this, please make this happen….” Our prayers are really just our worries, with a “Dear God” tucked on the front. Pray differently: ask for God’s love, rather than his problem solving. Instead of fretting over your concerns, why not pray that God would make you aware of his loving presence? The bible says “perfect love casts out fear.” So pray for God’s love to fill your heart and soul, flushing out the worry and fear.

3. Confess. If you do something the bible says not to do, that is a sin. The Bible clearly says not to fear or worry, so worry is a sin. Sin means missing the mark, making a bad choice. Do you see worry that way? As a sin? Sin is not just something that gets God mad at you, or gets you in trouble. It’s a choice you make that causes you to fall short of God’s best for you. It’s something that hurts you. Confess your worry as a sin, knowing that God is anxious to forgive you and show you a better way.

4. Let go and let God. If you are relying only on yourself, you have good reason to worry! You don’t have the resources that God does. But if you trust God, worry is not necessary. Fear grows out of our need to control things. Realizing God is in control means accepting that you are not in control! The Bible tells us that God is close to the brokenhearted, that he hears the cries of the oppressed, that he knows us by name, that he has plans for our future. The path to fearlessness begins with trust, with believing that if you just let go, God will come through for you. When we face struggles, God is there for us. MacDonald writes: “when you’re going through hardship, or when you’re heavyhearted and burdened, God rolls up His sleeves and moves toward you in a way that’s unlike any other time.” (p. 34)

5. Focus on others. When we are wrapped up in our own problems, we tend to worry more. When we get outside of ourselves and realize that we may not have it so bad, and that others need our help, our worries get put into proper perspective. Volunteer at a nursing home, or your church. Bring a meal to a neighbor with a new baby or who is ill. Simply sit and listen to someone who is going through a rough time.

Worry and fear keep us from experiencing God’s love. The bible says “perfect love casts out fear,” and that love comes only from God. Don’t allow fear to block your access to God’s amazing love.

and how they can cast out fear at:

Today I am stepping across the line. I’m tired of waffling and I’m finished with wavering. I’ve made my choice; the verdict is in and my decision is irrevocable. I’m going God’s way. There is no turning back. I will live the rest of my life serving God’s purposes, with God’s people, on God’s planet, for God’s glory. I will use my life to celebrate his presence, cultivate his character, participate in his family, demonstrate his love, and communicate his Word.

Since my past has been forgiven, and I have a purpose for living and a home waiting in heaven, I refuse to waste any more time or energy on shallow living, petty thinking, trivial talking, thoughtless doing, useless regretting, hurtful resenting, or faithless worrying. Instead I will magnify God, grow to maturity, serve in ministry, and fulfill my mission in the membership of his family.

Because this life is preparation for the next, I will value worship over wealth, “we” over “me”, character over comfort, service over status, and people over possessions, position, and pleasure. I know what matters most and I will give it all I’ve got. I will do the best I can with what I have for Jesus Christ today. I won’t be captivated by culture, manipulated by critics, motivated by praise, frustrated by problems, debilitated by temptation, or intimidated by the devil. I’ll keep running my race with my eyes on the goal; not on the sidelines or on those running by me. When times get tough and I get tired, I won’t back up, back off, back down, back out, or backslide. I’ll just keep moving forward by God’s grace. I’m spirit-led, purpose-driven, and mission-focused so I can’t be bought. I will not be compromised, and I shall not quit until I finish the race.

I’m a trophy of God’s amazing grace so I will be gracious to everyone, grateful for every day, and generous with everything that God entrusts to me. I am a radical in the original sense of the word: rooted in Christ, rooted in love, and rooted in his Word.

I hereby declare my supreme allegiance to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I say this: However, whenever, wherever, and whatever you ask me to do, my answer is yes! I’m ready. Anytime. Anyway. Whatever it takes Lord; whatever it takes! I want to be used by you in such a way that on that final day I’ll hear you say, “Well done, good and faithful one. Come on in and let the eternal party begin!”

Are you RADICAL for God?

~ Karla Meachem

I wanted to share the following EMPOWERING Quote
to give you an inside look at what Dr. Cloud shared...

"Endings are a part of every aspect of life,
from business to personal. When done well,
seasons are negotiated, and the proper endings
lead to the end of pain, greater growth,
personal and business goals reached, and better lives.
Endings bring hope. When done poorly, bad outcomes happen,
good opportunities are lost, and misery either remains
or is repeated. So, let’s get empowered to choose the
necessary endings, execute them well, and get to
the better results you desire."

TODAY may be the ENEMY of your TOMORROW.
In your business & personal life, the tomorrow you desire
may NOT come to pass if you don't END some things you are doing today.
